The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been encouraging the private sector to lead efforts for disseminating decarbonization technologies overseas and supporting developing countries in their transition to clean energy. The Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA) is one such effort, and is an initiative between the government and private sectors based on a proposal by the government of Japan to advance the development of environments through businesses toward the dissemination of decarbonization technologies in the ASEAN region.
METI hereby announces that the 3rd CEFIA Government-Private Forum will be held online on February 21, 2022. We look forward to seeing many participants interested in decarbonization businesses in the ASEAN region.
Outline of the program
At the 16th ASEAN+3 Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM+3) held in 2019, participants agreed to inaugurate CEFIA as a new initiative for government and private sector cooperation based on a proposal by the government of Japan. For the purpose of advancing energy transition and decarbonization in the ASEAN region, CEFIA aims to advance the dissemination of decarbonization technologies and establishment of related policies and systems under the leadership of businesses.
Government-private sector forums are to be held on a regular basis under the initiative. The 3rd CEFIA Government-Private Forum will be held online on February 21, 2022. The forum will not only hold briefings on the current situations of activities over the past year, but there will also be panel discussions focusing on formulating a road map for future cooperation and promoting financing for decarbonization technologies and projects in the ASEAN region. These panel discussions will include government organizations from Japan and ASEAN, Japanese companies working under the initiative, local financial institutions in the ASEAN region, and other organizations.
