A working group on energy efficiency standards (*1), a body established under the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), compiled the “Report on New Energy Efficiency Standards for Television Sets.”
Concerning new standards for energy consumption efficiency (energy efficiency standards) for television sets under the Act on the Rational Use of Energy (Act No. 49 of 1979), a working group on energy efficiency standards established under ANRE has been holding discussions since January 2019. On February 16, 2021, the working group compiled a report titled “Report on New Energy Conservation Standards for Television Sets” (*2) following the results of its meeting held on January 29, 2021.
Outline of the new energy efficiency standards
- Target fiscal year: FY2026 (Reiwa 8 Fiscal Year)
- Standard energy consumption efficiency (energy efficiency standards): 109.8 kWh per year (targeting all television sets)
- Current energy consumption efficiency: 162.5 kWh per year
Note: The energy consumption efficiency is expected to improve by about 32% from the current level. - Target equipment: Liquid crystal television sets and organic EL television sets
- Calculation method for the standard energy consumption efficiency:
The efficiency was calculated by estimating standard use of television sets based on standard conditions of use, e.g., viewing time, recording time and brightness.
