Call for Applicants for the Young Professionals Japan Program

May 11, 2021

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby opens the first round of a call for the FY2021 ISO/IEC Young Professionals Japan Program (hereinafter referred to as the “YoungPro” program) for the purpose of fostering human resources in the field of international standardization who are able to exercise leadership in negotiations at meetings of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Outline of the program

Businesses and industries around the world recognize activities for international standardization not only as part of rule-making but also as a means of forming markets and developing business environments. In the “Three Action Plans for the Development of Human Resources Responsible for Standardization” (formulated in January 2017), the efforts toward fostering standardization-related human resources who will bolster company activities for international standardization are included as important measures.

As one of the measures for achieving this goal, METI started the YoungPro program in 2012, aiming to foster human resources who will be able to exercise leadership in presenting Japan’s proposals for standardization at ISO and IEC meetings. A total of 377 participants have graduated from the program to date.

METI will hold three rounds of the program in FY2020,  and hereby opens the first round of the call for applicants.
