The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been encouraging the private sector to demonstrate leadership in efforts toward spreading low-carbon technologies throughout developing countries and the rest of the world and supporting them in their transition to clean energy. The Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA) is an initiative the Japanese government proposed and began work on in 2019 with a view toward developing an environment where businesses can take the lead in popularizing low-carbon technologies in the ASEAN region.
METI will hold the CEFIA Japan Seminar 2021 online on December 17, 2021. Aimed at Japanese companies, this seminar will explain CEFIA’s significance and appeal in promoting and expanding low-carbon businesses in ASEAN through keynote speeches and panel discussions.
Outline of the program
At the 16th ASEAN+3 Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM+3) held in 2019, participants agreed to inaugurate a new initiative for government and private sector cooperation (CEFIA) based on Japan’s proposal. In order to advance energy transition and efforts toward becoming low-carbon in the ASEAN region, CEFIA aims to promote the wider use of low-carbon technologies and the establishment of related policies and systems under the leadership of businesses.
METI will hold the CEFIA Japan Seminar 2021 online with the aim of introducing CEFIA’s efforts to a wide range of Japanese companies and other organizations, and to support those who are trying to develop low-carbon businesses in ASEAN in the future. The seminar will include keynote speeches by global companies that are working on becoming carbon neutral, and panel discussions on low-carbon projects (flagship projects) currently underway within CEFIA. Its aim is to deepen people’s understanding of the cooperation between the public and private sectors toward achieving carbon neutrality, and to encourage Japanese companies and other organizations to participate in CEFIA.
