On June 16, 2023, the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Committee under the Industrial Structure Council compiled the 2023 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA). In response, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) decided to adopt the METI Priorities based on the 2023 Report.
Outline of the 2023 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA)
Since 1992, the report has been published annually in order to identify trade policies/measures of major trading partners that may be inconsistent with international rules, such as those stipulated in WTO agreements, and to urge those partners to rectify such trade policies/measures.
The 2023 edition is the 32nd in this series, and was adopted by the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Policy Committee under the Industrial Structure Council (Chair: KIMURA Fukunari, Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University).
Outline of the METI Priorities Based on the 2023 Report
METI has also released a list of measures METI will prioritize addressing as well as responses to systemic problems (eg. non-market measures, economic coercion, the impasse of the WTO Appellate Body) in a report called “METI Priorities Based on the 2023 Report”.
