On June 25, 2021, the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Committee under the Industrial Structure Council compiled the 2021 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA). In response, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) decided to adopt the METI Priorities based on the 2021 Report.

Since 1992, the report has been published annually in order to identify trade policies/measures of major trading partners that may be inconsistent with international rules, such as those stipulated in WTO agreements, and to urge those partners to rectify such trade policies/measures.
The 2021 edition is the 30th in this series, and was adopted by the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Policy Committee under the Industrial Structure Council (Chair: Dr. Fukunari Kimura, Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University).

METI has also released the list of priority issues and related action plans in a report called “METI Priorities Based on the 2021 Report” in conjunction with the publication of the report mentioned in Item 1 above.
