10th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee Held

On November 30, 2022 (Wed.), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the 10th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee, where various topics relevant to expanding trade and investment and strengthening cooperative relations between Japan and Mongolia were discussed.

Outline of the event

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the 10th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee in Tokyo, to discuss various topics relevant to expanding trade and investment and strengthening cooperative relations between Japan and Mongolia. The President of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address during his official visit to Japan.

Mr. Nakatani Shinichi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and the co-chair on the Japan side, said that Japan and Mongolia—which have celebrated the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations—were mutually strategic partners that shared universal values such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, and that he expected further development of economic relations between the two countries based on discussions in the Joint Committee.

In the discussion session on economic cooperation between the two countries, State Minister Nakatani explained Japan’s efforts regarding DX and GX, which are key areas for Japan’s economic growth, and the possibilities for future cooperation with Mongolia focusing on promoting digital industries and developing digital human resources.

After the meeting, State Minister Nakatani attended as a guest the Japan-Mongolia Business Seminar (co-hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry) held along with the Committee. He expressed his hopes that the discussions and networking events in the seminar will expand business exchanges in the private sector, which is a vital source of economic development of both countries.
