World Robot Summit 2020 to be Postponed

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby announces that it has decided to postpone the World Robot Summit 2020, which was scheduled to be held in August and October 2020.

Concerning the World Robot Summit 2020 that was scheduled to be held in August 2020 in Fukushima Prefecture and October 2020 in Aichi Prefecture, METI received a number of opinions, mainly from the teams that have filed applications from overseas, in response to the expansion of the novel coronavirus disease, such as reports on delayed preparations for entering the competition, requests for postponing the event and inquiries about declining the opportunity to participate. In light of this situation, METI came to the conclusion that it would be difficult to hold the competition this year and decided to postpone the competition.

In response to this postponement, METI has been coordination and scheduling for a new competition in FY2021. METI will announce the specific date once it has been determined.

Please note that even after the postponement, METI will continue to use the title “World Robot Summit 2020.” In addition, it will continue the examination of teams that have already filed applications for the competition.
